The royal toys
Among the older toys in the display are the warships shaped like a chandelier on the ceiling. The ships, which were made in Germany, are said to have belonged to Crown Prince Gustaf (VI) Adolf and his brothers, Wilhelm and Erik.
The collection also includes a number of toys from the king's father, Prince Gustaf Adolf (1906-1947) and his brothers. For example, several tin soldiers, a band from the Svea Livgarde and ships from the Swedish navy made by the Old Santessonska tin foundry in Stockholm around 1910-14. The doll with its special face is made by the German Käthe Kruse and originally belonged to the king's mother, Princess Sibylla (1908-1972). The large bear on wheels comes from the German Steiff and has, as you may have seen, been loved by several generations of children. And you can actually still make it roar! Like many others, King Carl XVI Gustaf (b.1946) had a great interest in cars and construction machinery as a child. The large garage is made by British Tri-ang, while the parked cars come from Dinky Toys in Liverpool. The gold-colored horse-drawn carriage with a band was made by Britains in England, for Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953. Further back in the stand you can see some of the wooden cars and boats that the young Crown Prince actually made himself in the craft. You can also see the homemade tiger, "A Swedish Tiger" which is painted yellow and blue.
